Strip all styles from report
DQM

Hi,

My employer has a plethora of reports and it is my job to change the 'look and feel' of those reports.

So I created custom styles and a chart theme and saved them to a library file.

When I use my chart theme on an existing chart in an existing report I notice that some elements are restyled, while others are not (for instance, rotation of text along the X-axis).

Note: turning on "Auto" on selected elements does help in applying the theme from my library, but this means I have to restyle each chart individually in every existing report.

Is there some method to strip a report of ALL styling before applying new themes from a library?

Thanks!

Options are going to depend some on how the styling was done to the report initially. If it was done through an external library file updating that file or replacing it with a file with the same name and same theme names should allow you to update things in a single location.

If the styles are styles that were made locally on the report design, you should be able to delete them from the Outline view in the designer. There will be a section named Styles with all of the local styles in the report design.

If modifications were made to elements directly and not through a style or a theme, I am not sure there is a location to remove or reset to default those changes. You can try overriding them by applying a new style/theme that uses a different value for those settings. Otherwise, it may take manual modifications.

If you have a large amount of reports that are all going to require the same manual modifications, you could investigate modifying the XML directly to remove the desired style settings. That might save you some time in doing a large batch of changes. Just be careful as modifying the XML needs to be done with caution as issues will cause the report to stop working. Always make backups before modifying the XML and thoroughly test afterwards.

Thanks for your advice Jesse, It looks like editing the XML is the way to go.
