Why is chart.getBaseAxes() not in the API docs

I see a number of examples/tutorials that use <br>
 </p>

 xAxis = chart.getBaseAxes()[0];</pre>
<p> <br>
in the <br>
 </p>
<pre class="_prettyXprint _lang-auto _linenums:0">
.beforeGeneration()</pre>
<p> <br>
 event handler when working with charts through scripts.  However, I do not see any reference to the method </p>
<pre class="_prettyXprint">
.getBaseAxes()</pre>
<p> anywhere in the BIRT API (<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='http://help.eclipse.org/mars/index.jsp?topic=/org.eclipse.birt.chart.doc.isv/chart/api/org/eclipse/birt/chart/model/component/Series.html'&gt;http://help.eclipse.org/mars/index.jsp?topic=/org.eclipse.birt.chart.doc.isv/chart/api/org/eclipse/birt/chart/model/component/Series.html&lt;/a&gt;).  <br><br>
Could someone point me where I can find this method or suggest why it is omitted from the API doc?</p>
