BIRT Extension - adding a new "Number Format" category
Amir Groisman

Hi,

Currently we have a report that contains many "data set columns", each one is formatted using the built-in "Number Format" formatter.

What we need is, instead of using the "out of the box" formatter, to use our internal number formatter.

We thought about coding an extension (plug-in) that will enable to add a new category to the number formatter. When choosing to format the data item using this new category, BIRT will call the internal formatter to receive the formatted number.

First of all, is this actually a possibility? If so, what is the process for developing such a plug-in? What are the relevant extension points for this and how is the actual extending done?

Thanks!

Amir.

Yes, it is possible to modify the NumberFormatter class.

The NumberFormatter is org.eclipse.birt.core.format.NumberFormatter which is located in the org.eclipse.birt.runtime.

You could modify the source code for this class directly, rebuild the class and deploy it to your environment. Alternatively, you could write a new class that extends the NumberFormatter class and then import and use your class through scripting when needed.
