Validation script for parameters does not work when the parameters are not included as part of the g

Hi,
 
In my report, there are two date parameters (From Date and To Date). I have written validation for these parameters. When the report is run alone, it works fine. But when i include the report in a dashboard and insert the parameters not as part of the report gadget, the validation is not being done.Is there any way in which the problem can be solved.
 
P.S: When the report parameters(From Date and To Date) are included as part of the gadget in the dashboard then the validation works fine.
