Web CMS (TeamSite)
Front Office vs. Templating
point_taken
Hello:
We are at the beginning stagings of rolling out Teamsite. A decision needs to made about if we are going to implement FrontOffice or Templating. I'm looking for the pro's and con's from DevNet's experience with both tools. What is the ideal approach?
Thank you.

A little more information about what the heck you are trying to do would be helpful. These are 2 very different beasts and there is not a great deal of overlap.
Tell us about your system, what are your users like ? What are they generating ? Are the local or remote ? (Templating over a slow link can be painful with complex templates)
It certainly sounds like some training is in order, or at least a very good consultant. QUestions like this lead me to believe someone may be moving down a bad path.

Have you ruled out implementing them both? Although they have not been integrated, each product offers distinctly different feature sets.

maybe you are talking about using the web interface templating vs the front office word templating?..............

Hi All:
Yes that is the question.
The process currently has most of the content coming in Word format. I've had problems in the past with users copying and pasting Word content into the Visual Format box and I want to avoid that head ache again. Are there limitations when using FrontOffice as apposed to Templating?
Thank you.

Not even certain if that is still supported (used to be) but also RTF was not allowed from word. TS is dependant on MS Word's convert to XML which stripped out all RTF.
Now, I have not seen 6.0 and if IW planned to continue this line, I would expect some major enhancements to be in 6.0.

TFO's Word-to-XML feature was end-of-lifed after the 5.0 release due to limitations of the feature imposed by Word. As of the 5.5.2 release, which is the most recent, TFO cannot be used as a front-end for Templating.

Then what's the point of TFO?.....just to save Word docs into Teamsite.

TeamSite Front-Office enables content contributors to access the content management functionality of TeamSite directly within their MS Office applications and within Windows Explorer.
