Problem while using Data set caching

Hi All,
I am new to BIRT and going through various proof of concepts. Here is one

I have to do a proof of concept for "Suppose I have a data source as Excel and three different data sets. So, on running a report, how can I ensure that I am using cached data set instead of actual data set" (for efficiency)

Sorry for the delay in getting to this post.
 
You may have figured this out already but if you are using the commercial iHub and designer, you can create .datadesign file with data sets or data models based on your excel file. Then, you can generate a .data file from the data design. That .data file will contain the cached results of the data sets/models and can be used as the data source for your report designs.
