Design report with summary at top and detail at bottom
rcrane11

We are creating a report with TRIRIGA XML data that has a summary section at the top in one grid and detail rows on the bottom in a different table with subtotals for various parts of the table. The summary section is supposed to display data from the subtotals in the table (along with some other calculations to that data). It appears that BIRT is rendering literally from top to bottom, so that the summary section is painted first, so that even if we set a variable when totaling data in the second table processing, the variable isn't set until the table is processed and painted--which occurs after the summary is painted--so that the variable is still null when the summary is painted. Is there a way around this? Can we get the summary grid to re-paint after the variables are set when processing the second table? Or something to that effect?

Thanks

You are correct that it does process the document from top to bottom.

I do not believe there is a way to have just a single table/grid regenerate.

Depending on how your script is setup, you may be able to hook the summary elements based on their bookmark or element id and update their values later on in the table where you a calculating the summary information.

Take a look at this page on scripting for more details on the scripting and report generation process: <a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

As an alternative, you could also look at using the Design Engine API (DEAPI) to manually query the data set and perform the summary calculation with scripting in the summary section.

Take a look at the DEAPI sample report in this post for an example: <a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='
