Visual Format styles not changing

Currently I have a custom stylesheet being applied to the WYSIWYG. When a user highlights text and selects a style, everything works as designed, however if that user wants to select the same text and change the style, nothing happens. In the code, it shows both styles being applied. Is there a configuration setting that prevents this from happening?

According to the ektron web site the VFE has no way of knowing whether a user intends to apply nested levels of styles to text or not so will apply additional styles on top. The solution is use the 'Default style' to first remove the unwanted style and then to apply the new style.
