Display the sign number in a dynamic text (script)

<p>I have a dynamic text which displays the value of a computed variable.</p>
<p>The variable is a number and I need to displays also the sign of the number positive or negative.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I have read about Birt function formatter but I don't know how to use it.</p>
<p> </p>

<p>Try this format:</p>
<p> </p>
<p><span style="font-family:'courier new', courier, monospace;">Formatter.format(vars["myVariable"],<span style="color:#ff0000;">"+#,##0.00;-#,##0.00"</span>)</span></p>
<p> </p>
<p>The idea is to create one format for positive values and one for negative values.</p>
<p> </p>
