Dynamic Filter for Multi Select input parameters
birtdeveloper

Hi,

I am new to BIRT report development. I am using the BIRT eclipse verison to design a report. I wish to have 3 Multi Select report parameters to be prompted to the user before the report is run.

I understand that we could use the Combo Box for report parameters, but this works perfect for single values, and not for multiple selections for a drop down.

I am attaching the screenshot of how the report parameter looks like.

I have a parameter called param1 which I want to prompt to the user. He can choose one or more values for this parameter. And based on this selection, I want the report to run.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi,

In the parameter definition, choose List Box instead of Combo Box and check the Allow Multiple Values property, as shown here:

Hi Pricher,

Thank you for the prompt reply. I am currently using the open source BIRT eclipse version, and it seems that this option is not available in the open source version.

Can you confirm if you were able to find this option in the open source version, or did you buy the professional version?

Hi,

I just realized that the Allow Multiple Values option is not available when you create the report parameter from the data set parameter. It is only available when you create the parameter directly from the Report Parameters section in Data Explorer. This UI limitation is probably because BIRT doesn't handle nicely multi value parameters in queries. In fact, if you want to pass multiple values to a where clause, you will need to add some script to the beforeOpen method of the data set.

I am sendng you a report sample where I have created 2 multi-value report parameters. The Data Set query is modified in the beforeOpen method based on the value of these parameters.

Hope this helps,
