Changes to BIRT code do not reflect in server/report engine

The changes done in BIRT code (eg in files TextBoxParameterFragment.jsp in the birt\webcontent\birt\pages\parameter folder do work in my Eclipse Designer.
 
But when I try to replicate the same changes in my Jboss runtime server, the changes do not reflect. I have tried restarting my server several times and deleting the work folder.Also I have noticed a weird thing. In the work folder, all the subfolders of pages appear except parameter. Theses folders hold the class files for the jsp. 
 
Has anybody experienced similar issue where changes do not reflect in teh report engine during changes for date picker or so. Thanks in advance.

What version of BIRT and JBoss are you using? I don't think the version will have an effect, but it will be good to know just in case we need to reproduce the issue.
 
How did you "replicate the same changes" in JBoss? How did you migrate the changes?
 
Where there any Javascript files changed? Have you tried clearing your browser's cache, or tested from a private/incognito browser window?

Hello Clement, I am using the BIRT4.5 version and Jboss 5.1.0. Basically I have the birt.war deployed in my Jboss. I have attached the folder structure. Whenever I make any changes to my report design, I just copy the design file to my birt.war/report in the deploy folder. The changes do replicate.
 
I am now changing the birt javascript for implementing a date picker. Now interestingly, I also did changes to modify the birt toolbar to remove some options from export report. So they are jsp changes as well. I did the changes to the jsp file in birt.war\webcontent\birt\pages\dialog. They replicate and work well. But any changes to any jsp files in parameter folder do not replicate.
 
I have tried shutting down jboss, deleting work folder and restarting, it still seems to just pickup old code. So when I tried checking the work folder, the birt folder there has jsp class files created for all subfolders in pages folder, except parameter.
 
Also point to note, these changes work in my designer. so they are tried and tested.

What Java version are you using?

BIRT 4.5.0 should not be able to run with Java 6.
 
BIRT 4.5.0 is based on Eclipse 4.5 (Mars) which according to the release page (<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='https://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse/Installation#Eclipse_4.5_.28Mars.29'>https://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse/Installation#Eclipse_4.5_.28Mars.29</a>): 
 
A Java 7 JRE/JDK is required for all Mars package downloads based on Eclipse 4.5.
 
JBoss AS 5.1.0 can run with Java 7, but requires fix JBAS-6981.

Sorry yea Clement, some correction.
 
My JBOSS server has following birt.war installed.
 
Viewer Version : 4.2.2
Engine Version: 4.2.2
JRE version: 1.6.0_45
 
This birt.war does run successfully. The changes I am doing are in \jboss\server\deploy\birt.war\webcontent\birt\pages\parameter.
 
I was using the current Eclipse Designer 4.5 (Mars). So ideally all my jsp changes have nothing to do with the designer. But when I try doing any change in say TextBoxParameterFragment.jsp, they do not replicate. I was doing the change to remove the radio button for an optional(not required) parameter.

I ran a quick test with your configuration. Installed BIRT Viewer in JBoss according to this (<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='http://wiki.eclipse.org/BirtPOJO_Viewer_JBOSS_Deployment'>http://wiki.eclipse.org/BirtPOJO_Viewer_JBOSS_Deployment</a>). 
 
Made a simple change to C:\JBOSS\server\default\deploy\birt.war\webcontent\birt\pages\parameter\TextBoxParameterFragment.jsp
 
Restarted JBoss, and was able to see the change in the dialog box @ <a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='http://localhost:8080/birt/frameset?__report=test1.rptdesign'>http://localhost:8080/birt/frameset?__report=test1.rptdesign</a>
 
Under your JBoss /server directory, what other directories do you have? For my non-customized JBoss installation, I see all, default, minimal, standard, and web. And I have deployed to the default directory.

We do have a customised version of Jboss. So the jboss/server folder has different folders for different services. Birt.war is contained in one of the service folders inside deploy. E:\jboss\server\mdh-portal-dev\deploy\birt.war.
 
Clement, there is one discrepancy though, I was using the Eclipse Mars as my designer. I will revert it back to be compatible with 4.2.2 version. But would that affect to jsp changes which I am doing directly in the jboss server in a text editor. Also interestingly my report designs created in Eclipse Mars worked with my birt4.2.2 installed on jboss.

I have attached you the files I modified. I was trying to attach the entire war, but it wouldn't allow, as its too large,
 
I have just modified the index.jsp to include a text field which is optional, within the birt:parameterPage tag. In a normal scenario, birt adds a text box, with a radio button along side for null value. I have modified the TextBoxParameterFragment.jsp to remove the code for radio button for an optional parameter.
 
I tried with this sample war again, making sure this time, I modify the design file in the compatible Eclipse Juno. But still doesn't work.
 
I am really stuck at this. Because it stops us from customizing the code any further and leaves my poc to use BIRT for our reporting requirements incomplete

I tried with downloading a fresh jboss and deploying the sample there. It still doesn't work. May be has something wrong with my changes ?. I checked my jar files they are 84 after deleting 2 jars. Is there anyway I can give you the war, or may be you can give a shot with my earlier attachment of modified files. Thanks a ton !!!

So if anybody else faces this same issue, will tell you the conclusion. 
 
When you need to make changes to the birt code, to say add the date picker or make changes to the way it renders the text optional fields, you may find all search results to change the jsps in webcontent/birt/pages folder. This does work for the eclipse birt runtime. But if you are using a custom param page with parameters defined in birt tag library, it will not help modifying those jsps. In that case, you will have to modify the javascript of the custom param page on load, or change the tag library code. Apparently modifying the javascript onload is a little easier.

I've noticed you figured out how to solve this issue, but unfortunately I don't understand the solution you mentioned. Can you give me a little bit more details so I can get it to work on our server?

I have successfully modified the JSP files and the jsp.jar file for BIRT 4.6.0 and got the datepicker to work on my local machine, but when I do the same thing for the BIRT on our server, the datepicker does not work.
