BIRT PDF Report blanking out on clicking e-mail ID
kumargr

Hi team,

I am facing this problem. there is e-mail address as part of data in my report. When generated as PDF, if clicked on the address, outlook opens with that ID in 'To' field which is fine, but in BIRT, the generated report blanks out. Nothing appears but a black screen.

Any solution for this? Or is it a bug?

Please help.

Can you describe in more detail what steps you take to generate the black screen? Also, include a screenshot if possible.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Step taken is just clicking the e-mail ID data in the report.

Also I have attached snapshots as you asked.

Thank you for providing the screenshots as they provided additional information for us.

It appears that you are viewing the report within Eclipse Designer, and you are using the default browser. You should change this setting under Eclipse' menu Window > Preferences > General > Web Browser.

Select the "Use external web browser".

Then, click on "New", and define a setting for Chrome or Firefox (or if you must, IE).

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

I'm not using BIRT intergrated with eclipse. It is just the BIRT Designer. I tried below steps, still no luck. I selected IE.

Is there no solution for it?

We open the report in IE in our application, most of the times this issue simulates there. So, wanted to know if there is any solution or is it a limitation from BIRT.

Hi,

On top of the changes suggested by Clement above, make sure you also go to Windows --> Preferences --> Report Design --> Preview and check "Always use external browsers". The bottom line is that you need to open the report in a browser like IE, Chrome, Firefox.

Hope this helps,

Hi Pierre,

The setting you suggested worked. But I'm not getting why does it happen. We open the report in IE, sometimes it simulates there, which is not ideal for us.

Also, this setting is not related to the template file right? So what can be the work around?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

The setting is only for the Designer. It is actually best practice to always use an external browser when developing your reports from BIRT Designer. In deployment, using the BIRT engine, you will always be running in the context of a "commercial" browser (IE, Chrome, FF) and the Designer setting has no impact.

Hi Pierre,

Again thanks a lot for your reply.

Even we are using IE to display the report.

Not always, but sometimes the issue simulates from IE. So I had put up this query.

No solution for it then??

Hi,

I can see the issue happening in IE9, but not in IE11.

Oh okay. It was not consistent in our systems too. IE11 itself.

Anyway, Thank u for your reply
