validation-regex error in metadata datacapture.cfg

amitsri

I have problem using validation-regex in
metadata datacapture.cfg file .
It is not recognizing the parenthesis "( )" properly.
e.g it does not work correctly for
validation-regex="((\d{2})|(\d))\/((\d{2})|(\d))\/((\d{4})|(\d{2})) "
which is used for text date field.
Here valid dates can be 02/02/03 or 2/2/2003 etc.
I am using version 5.5.2 of teamsite.

This works for me:
validation-regex="^(\d{2}|\d{1})\/(\d{2}|\d{1})\/(\d{4}|\d{2})$"

Tested on TS5.5.2 on Solaris.

Thanks Michael ,
But even this is not working on my win nt system.
Any idea why ?

Hard to say based on what has been posted so far.

Please reply with more information --
-explanation of exactly what is happening
-attach a description / screenshot of the error
-your datacapture.cfg file.

Do you have other validation regex working on your system? What about other validation regex within the same template?

Cheers, Michael

Hi,
Yes,other validations are working in that file .

<item name="Expiration Date(mm/dd/yy)">
<text size="12" maxlength="12"
validation-regex="^(\d{2}|\d{1})\/(\d{2}|\d{1})\/(\d{4}|\d{2})$">

</text>
</item>
<item name="Release Date(mm/dd/yy)">
<text size="12" maxlength="12"
validation-regex="[0-1][0-9]/[0-3][0-9]/[0-9][0-9]">
</text>

</item>

The error message I get is a message box "Please correct the elements with invalid entries "

Thanks ,
Amit

hmmm that's curious isn't it? When you say it is not working, do you mean
- text fails the validation always?
- text never fails the validation?
- the template won't render and gives an error?
- something else....

Cheers, Michael

Ooops sorry, you had already answered my question. I had only read your previous post. Not the one before that. I will hopefully have access to a Windows box in a few hours to test this out for you.

Perhaps someone else with a Windows 5.5.2 installation could beat me to it, and give it a go on their box? Smiley Happy

By not working, I mean that it fails even for correct dates.
The form comes up but on clicking setMetaData I get the validation error message box.

Thanks,
Amit

I notice that in the TS Admin manual, in the examples for metadata, they have \ before there curly braces eg

<text required="t" maxlength="8"
validation-regex="^[0-9]\{0,\}\.[0-9]\{0,\}$" />

It might be worth giving that a go?

btw, I only just realised we were talking about the metadata capture template here. I was testing this in an ordinary DCT. Sorry if that has sent us down the wrong path. However, I thought it used the same engine anyway??

Cheers, Michael.

It seems it has got something to do with basic regular exp and extended regular expressions in teamsite.

Michael

Did you give the blackslash idea (from my previous post) a go?

Adam Stoller

... validation-regex="^(\d{2}|\d{1})\/(\d{2}|\d{1})\/(\d{4}|\d{2})$">

Try:

... validation-regex="^([0-9][0-9]|[0-9])\/([0-9][0-9]|[0-9])\/([0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]|[0-9][0-9])$">
or

... validation-regex="^(\[0-9\]\[0-9\]|\[0-9]\)\/(\[0-9\]\[0-9\]|\[0-9\])\/(\[0-9\]\[0-9\]\[0-9\]\[0-9\]|\[0-9\]\[0-9\])$">

The 5.x (and earlier) OOTB metadata capture form uses, I believe, the regex(5) basic library processing for regex's. In 5.0.1 (if memory serves correctly, though it might have been 4.5.1) Templating's DCTs started using regex(5) extended library which allowed a bit more functionality. I believe, though cannot say outright, that MetaTagger processes the metadata DCT with regex(5) extended.

I believe that MetaTagger's rendering of the metadata DCT (not the product, but the rendering capability for the UI) will be OOTB in TeamSite 6.0

I believe the comment from Fish was right on target. The OOTB metadata engine in TS 5.5 is the same as it was in TS 4.5, AND IT ONLY SUPPORTS regex(5) basic. (unlike the templating engine which supports regex(5) extended. I don't believe the | (alternative) symbol is valid in regex(5) basic, and I think that in basic, the ( needs to be preceded by a \... but the meaning is also different then the "grouping" meaning it has (without the backslash) in extended regex.

Bottom line, you can't use any of the extended regex capability in a metadata validation regex, which (for dates) leaves you with only rudimentary date checking.

.... been down this road...... can't believe they left the "old" metadata engine in TS 5.5!

Thanks Michael,Fish,PSUWin for helping me out .
