ihub data sources
Alfnator

We are evaluating ihub for our organization but don't have any experience with the product. We installed the ihub trial version and can access the demo reports.

However, what we would like to do is take one of our reports and upload it to ihub and then have that run against our different environments (oracle databases)

For example we would like to upload a Maximo birt to ihub then share that report with a user.

However since we are new to the product , we aren't even sure if ihub can do that or how to go about that. Although we found how to upload the report but had an error when we double click the report.

1. How do I specify what environment the report should run against?

2. We saw some documentation about hardcoding the data sources into the report then uploading it to ihub. Is that the correct and only way to specify what database the report should execute against?

Thanks for the help in advance.

May I suggest contacting a local resource that can help you with your evaluation. Maximo uses a scripted data source with custom classes so it might not be as straight forward as simply connecting to Oracle. If you tell me where you are located I will message you with a contact.

Hi Alfnator,

Could you provide the error message that you are encountering? There are a number of errors that could occur when trying to use a report that was not designed to be ran directly on the server.

Depending on how the report was built, the report may or may not work. Recalling the Maximo reports I have seen, they were built to take very specific custom parameters that you had to manually enter to get it to run straight from the iHub 3. I believe this is largely due to the Maximo engine design and the way it feeds parameters to it's reporting components.

We know that reports that used the Maximo BIRT, could almost always run straight from the iHub 3, if you knew how to specify these parameters.

The route you will likely want to take is to change the Maximo report in the BIRT Designer so that the parameters can be specified or defaulted in an intuitive way that users would be able to use.

Edit: I agree with mblock. A local resource would be very helpful for your situation.

Thank you jneneman for the response. The maximo report is just an example and the report did have some paramaters so we will try one without paramaters just for testing purposes.

However, what we would like to understand more is how does the report know what environment to run against when the user double clicks the report via ihub?

We did not see an option when uploading the report or anywhere in ihub to specify a database source or jdbc connection information.

Does the report have to be hardcoded with the database connection information?

if we upload lets say woprint report to ihub, can we have it run against development environment and then run the same report against production? would that be possible with ihub?

thanks,

You can either hard code in the report or use connection profiles. There is no way to define connections on the server itself.

Connection profiles are documented here - <a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

I still feel that your evaluation will benefit from a local resource. Let me know if you are interested.

Thank you for the reply. We are very early in the evaluation process and depending on how things go we might take you up on the offer.
