Birt crosstab report - missing fetch script

Hi,
I'm using Birt version 4.4.2 and need to inject data for unit testing. The fetch script does the job on other (non-crosstab) reports, but the option isn't available for the crosstab report I'm working on. The only script options for the crosstab Data Set are beforeOpen, beforeClose, onFetch, afterOpen, afterClose. In searching for an answer, people imply that 'fetch' script is available for crosstab. Am I doing something wrong?
