"Locking" a field

Hello!

I have a DCT where one of the fields has a browse item that uses an include file. This field can only be populated by clicking the browse button and selecting from the include file. The users must not be able to enter any data into the field except from this file. Is there any way to "lock" a field in this way?

I am not sure if this is going to work, but have you tried using FormAPI to make the field readonly ?

Thanks for your reply. The <readonly> element won't work according to the DTD.
