Web Deamon dies

On occasion the Web Deamon stops responding almost daily. We don't see any errors in any log files (at least none that I've looked at) and restarting the service, iwreset -ui or iwreset -a doesn't 'wake it up'. Rebooting the server is the only way we've found to fix it.
Any Clues?
P.S. the message we get when we attempt to log in is:
The Interwoven Web Daemon was unable to contact the Interwoven Servlet Engine. The Interwoven Servlet Engine may be down, or running on an unexpected host or port.
Please contact your system administrator.

Are you looking in the OS event viewer as well as the IWOV logs? Seems like if a service fails it should show up in the event log. When you check the service is it stopped, or hanging? Have you monitored the CPU performance?

We checked the OS event logs with nothing. The service states it's running. Stopping and restarting the service didn't help. CPU utilization was effectivly at zero.

right, Windows doesn't log service failures (as I have now learned). There is a recovery setting, but I think that is only when a service cant start, not when it fails. In the recovery settings you can specify a file to run, whick I assume you could do some custom logging or notification.

This also puts the following error in the Application log:
Event ID: 4096
Source: iweventsubd
The Java Virtual Machine has exited with a code of -1,
the service is being stopped.
There should be an events.lock file in <iw-home>/eventsubsystem. Remove this file and try to restart eventsubsystem.
