SQL Performance issues

Hi,

My problem is BIRT report is taking more than 3mints to run a report that uses Oracle database. We are using Oracle 12c database and BIRT 4.6. When we run the query using TOAD/SQL Developer, its is taking only couple of seconds to retrieve the data. Why is it like that?

Regards,

Hi Priya,

Did you run the TOAD/SQL Developer tool on the same machine as the BIRT Report Designer? If not, give that a try. It would reveal any issues with the network that could be slowing things down.

Make sure that the database driver is supported and is compatible with your version of the database.

What is your eclipse.ini -Xmx value? You could need more memory.

Also, it could be an issue with the report design. Try creating a blank report. Add the data source and the data set containing the query. You should be able to preview the first 500 rows of the result set in the data set editor. Does the data set preview take minutes to run? Next try dragging the data set onto the empty layout to create a basic table. Save and run the report by choosing "View Report in Web Viewer" from the Run menu. Note how long the report takes to run. If this report runs much faster, then something on your original report is hurting the performance besides the query, i.e. custom code, row or field formatting, another element.

I hope this is helpful,
