Dynamic Text Box Creates New Rows
ContentOperations

We are experiencing an issue where using a dynamic text (HTML) field for data pulled from an rich text field does not export to Excel as expected.

It prints as expected in the BIRT Preview and prints to PDF okay, but in Excel, it creates new rows and splits cells unexpectedly. In the image below there are two resources, one which shows the issue and one which does not.

Michelle,

Are you using Open Source, or commercial BIRT? Also, which version?

The report uses an ODA source which we don't have -- "com.tle.reporting.oda.datasource" to replicate this issue.

Are you able to send a sample of the HTML data that your web service is returning? Then, we can attempt recreate the issue with the text. Or are you able to send a sample report design that shows the issue using the sample Classic Models database?

BTW, I removed your original .rptdesign, which had potentially sensitive information (service URL and credentials) and replaced it a modified one with those items removed.

Hi Clement,

Apologies for the delay in response. We are using Open Source BIRT 6.3.

Unfortunately we are unable to import the Classic Models schema and data into our database. Below is a sample of the data:

<xml><umuc><ownership>
<attribution>
Narrativeof the Life of Frederick Douglass by Frederick Douglass comprises public domain material in the United States.

</attribution></ownership>
</umuc></xml>

When we print the report, an extra row is created where the link is--this is the case for every attribution with a link or formatting/styling (bold, italics, etc.).

Sorry, there's no BIRT 6.3 version. I did see that your initial design was based on BIRT 3.7.2.

Classic Models doesn't need to be imported. It's shipped as part of BIRT. If you go to New Data Source, you can choose "Classic Models, Inc. Sample Database".

I created a sample report design using your data with the link. I ran it in BIRT 4.6 and exported to Excel using the out of the box XLSX, and the Spudsoft Excel emitter, and do not see the split.

Using BIRT 3.7.2 and exporting to XLS, I do see the split after the link. Are you able to use a newer version to test?
