Birt Report Displays Server Time and Not EST

When a report is run, despite the report locale being set to show EST it reports UTC which is the default server time. I am using the BirtDateTime.now function and the same happens when I use the getDate function.

Is there something I might be missing in the report design to define the time output to always be EST?

Locale and timezone are completely different things and have little relation. For example in the en_US (locale) here are 5 different time zones where EST is only one of them.

Maybe this post will help clarify some information - http://developer.actuate.com/community/forum/index.php?/topic/36402-timezone-in-report-incorrect/

Hi Mica,

Thank you for your response. I see what you are saying. So if I wanted to show EST time in Javascript how would I go about it? As locally the report returns EST but on the server UTC.

How are you deploying BIRT? If OS, then the engine task has a property to set the time zone. If iHub the it is based on the user's locale.

This also might help - http://developer.actuate.com/community/forum/index.php?/files/file/1137-time-zone-conversion/

This topic is also discussed here. Look at the end of the topic for an elegant solution http://developer.actuate.com/community/forum/index.php?/topic/20792-displaying-time-in-correct-time-zone-for-user/
