Need Help

All,
I have inherited a TeamSite server with DataDeploy and Oracle installed and I want to do some diagnostics to find out what is going on. First off, I am not a database guy, so pardon my newbie-ness.

This the section from database.xml

<data-deploy-elements>
<database
name = "db1"
db = "10.24.216.124:1521"
user = "central_metadata"
password = "password"
vendor = "oracle"/>
</data-deploy-elements>
Is there any way that I can ping or connect to this database to make sure that Data Deploy is going to work properly.

You can connect to the DB instance using sqlplus and verify if the table names specified in your config exist and try to query the tables if they contain any records.

BTW looks like ur db url is incomplete, you are missing the database name
eg:
db = "hostname:1521:dbname"
