<p>This is an article I had published on IBM DeveloperWorks about writing emitters for BIRT. This tutorial, which includes the sample code and plugins, will walk the reader through how to write an emitter that will create a simple JPEG output of a report. This is useful if you want to create thumbnails of BIRT report outputs, integrate into an application to generate thumbnails on the first run, or just archive a platform independent image file of BIRT report outputs. It is meant as an exercise to guide readers in how to build emitters, and can be expanded upon.</p>
