One of the biggest hurdles I have encountered when integrating BIRT into HTML based platforms is the output from the HTML emitter. This emitter wasn\''t really designed to play nice with AJAX/Web 2.0 style platforms such as GWT. As a result, there are times where the scripts, styles, and other features tend to cause issues with the final output.

Since these platforms were designed in such a way that the presentation and layout elements are seperated, where layout is handled by CSS on the client side, and presentation is handled by some sort of servlet, template, or compiled Javascript output, it is desireable to have an output from BIRT that doesn\''t apply any sort of styling, just raw DIV tags, and let the designer handle the layout or approximation of elements client side. This where where this emitter steps in.

This emitter will just output raw DIV elements wrapping the data, with the ID, NAME, and CLASS properties populated. Thats it, everything else is handled client side using CSS.

This is useful if you are a developer in GWT or Freemarker and want just raw output from BIRT.
