This DevShare submission qualifies for the
Autumn 2012 Plug In 2 BIRT Contest!

This is a
v2 update to the
OctoBirt ODA driver I developed previously in 2011. The update is mandatory because:
- GitHub removed support for all previous versions of its REST API (v1 and v2) on June 12, 2012.
- GitHub reduced the API rate limit for requests on October 14, 2012.

These 2 changes break the previous v1 version of
OctoBirt at:
http://www.birt-exchange.org/org/devshare/designing-birt-reports/1432-octobirt-driver-for-github-commits/
The v2 update of
OctoBirt provided here maintains the existing functionality from v1 of giving access to GitHub commits to BIRT applications, by calling the new GitHub API and operating within the new API rate limit.
Hence, all documentation from the previous version of
OctoBirt is still valid:
Usage:
Specify these parameters in the dataset:
- GitHub user/organization
- GitHub repository
- GitHub branch (default: "master")
- Days back to search (default: 7, meaning get last 7 days' worth of commits; -1 means no limit)

And the driver returns the following info on each commit within range:
- the commit's date
- author (name & email)
- commit message
- committer (name & email)
- URL - link to the commit details in GitHub
