User Specified Custom Sort Order
mwilliams
This example allows the user to enter a numeric value for each value of a certain field, so the table can be sorted to their preference. This allows them to sort in a non ascending/descending order. An array is populated in the dataSet script, which in turn populates a form of text boxes. This is all hidden except for a button labeled "Advanced Sorting Options" that the user can press to reveal the form. The values of the field are all dynamically displayed with a text box next to it for the user to enter their numeric value. When they hit the sort button, a javascript function is called to determine if the sort has been ran before and to reload the report passing the new sort order through a report parameter to the same report. If the new sort is the same as the current sort, the user is alerted, A computed column in the dataSet creates the new sortOrder field based on the parameter passed. Sorting on the group/table of the report then uses this field to sort the table in the specified order.<br />

This report was made in BIRT 4.2.0. I selected 3.7 for the report, because 4.2 has not been added yet.
