Deleting editions did not restore filesystem space

We have a branch in TeamSite 7.2.1 where we have only Editions. We want to free up some space on the server, so we started to delete the Editions on the branch. When we started to delete the editions the branch size was 2GB(used du -sh command to get the size). After deleting all the editions except INITIAL.iwconvert the branch size is coming as 200KB, there is no content in the workarea. Though the size came down for the branch but if I check the size of iw-store using df -h, it is showing same space as it was before deleting the editions.

I can't figure out why it did not free up space of iw-store. Is there any more step need to take to regain that space?

du of the branch is misleading.

Run iwstat and see if it has finished deleting the editions, It can take a while/

Also run iwfsshrink on the store, that helps a lot as well

Already confirmed that deletions are completed by running iwstat. We have scheduled job which runs iwfsshrink. It is not first time, in past also after deleting editions +branch, it did not restore space in iwstore and checked after running iwfsshrink scheduled job, same result.

how many branches do you have ? Did you delete a branch with a lot of content.

You can also write a branch size utility. Easiest to do it in Java/CSSDK. Get a list of files in the staging area, foreach file in Staging, get the number of versions. Then either be lazy and just multiply the number of version with the current size, or find the size for each version and get the total.

Do that for each branch and make certain you are cleaning the right branches.

Thanks Andy for the idea. Here is the process we followed to deleted the content and the branch. First all the content has been deleted from the workarea and deployed, so those are removed from STAGING area as well. Then deleted all the editions except INITIAL.iwconvert and finally deleted the branch. All have been done from UI. and yes, correct branch has been deleted. Is there anything wrong in this process? should I follow any other process?

Sounds like overkill, you should have been able to just remove the branch.

Write a program/script to check the sizes of each of the other branches. See if they are much larger than you think
