UCF install directory write Access and pre-install

All,

We are trying to separate the UCF installation directory and documents directory(Checkin, viewed, log, temp directory).

user will not have write access to installtion directoy.

We are planning to run a pre-install script that create the UCF in C:\program Files\Documentum

Preinstall works perfectly. We noticed that when client tries to view the document it updates time stamp in whitelist.xml file

We gave write access to that file.

Now the issue is applet just hangs us without any error- tried enabling the trace but no luck.

Did any one tried this? Does the user need to have write access on the UCF_home direcotry?

If it is a client side UCF, please set the granular level of logging in the file ucf.client.logging.properties. For server side ucf, the logs can be found as specified in the log4j.properties file. Remember to enable the tracing in ucf.server.config.xml as

As well check the java console for the error.

Hi Sundar,

At least one more directory where you will need to grant write access to users is "system" (C:\program Files\Documentum\ucf\INENJHARAVL3C\shared\system).

The UCF client javaw process runs as a user process and frequently needs to write in this directory.

Also observe if javaw process comes up after making the changes I suggested.

Errors, if any during UCF client startup will show up in the java console.

Just curious, do you have one UCF client installation per user (in C:\program Files\Documentum) or it is shared amongst users?

I am trying to install UCF by using command, but iam facing some bugs,

can u share the steps how to install the UCF in client machine .If user does not have any webtop and DFC installed in his system(client machine).

I read in some forums like we can install the ucf using follwing command,

java -cp ... com.documentum.ucf.client.install.TestInstall

server_host relative_path_to_ucf.installer.config.xml

Where:

server_host is the URL to the WDK application server host

relative_path_to_ucf.installer.config.xml is the path relative to the WDK application root directory

For example:

java -cp "\\some network path\ucfinit.jar" com.documentum.ucf.client.install.TestInstall "http://server_host:8080/webtop" "/wdk/contentXfer/ucf.installer.config


 The classpath parameter cp refers to the path to one of the following jars:For WDK-based applications, including Webtop, supply the path to ucfinit.jar. This is typically located in application_name/wdk/system, for example, webtop/wdk/system.
For other applications, supply the path to ucf-installer.jar in the application's installation directory on the application server host.

here i just want to use ucfinit.jar & "/wdk/contentXfer/ucf.installer.config.xml" file in my local machine instead locating the path from http://server_host:8080/webtop is there any possible ways to install accoriding my requirement
