Document Attributes?

Up to now I still haven't integrated my ASP.NET web app with documentum, but I just want to ask if it is possible in Documentum to attach custom properties or attributes to documents. For example, thisDocument.doc has a property called "Department," or "Priority."

A plain yes or no is greatly appreciated.

This is definitely possible in Documentum. There are two ways you can approach this:

You can create a custom type in Documentum that extends dm_document (it could also extend dm_sysobject, but if you want to apply this to documents, it makes the most sense to use dm_document). When you extend types, you can create your own custom attributes. In Documentum 5.3 and earlier, you can user Application Builder to define these types and attributes. In Documentum 6 and beyond, you'll want to use Documentum Composer.
A second way to do this would be through Aspects. Aspects are custom objects that can be attached to instances in the repository. So, you could have a set of dm_document instances that you want an Aspect associated with. This Aspect can add to the existing set of attributes for the type without modifying the type itself.

Option 1 is likely the most straightforward approach. All of these options can be found in the Documentum Content Server Fundamentals guide.
