is it possible to Create Version of the document without using checkout/checkin in DFC

My requirement is :

My document is in a folder, fetch the content, modify and put as a new version

Based on DFC documentation, can say checkout/checkin using operations that creates new version, then set the new content to the latest version.

is there a better way than this? somebody told me that there is a method avaialble in DFC without using checkout/checkin. Searched allover the DFC documentation, to my knowledge ,nothing is available.

Help in this regard is highly appreciated!

I need a clarification in the requirement:

Whenever you checkout and checkin you get a brand new object. The object corresponding to old version is still there (like a versioning system).

I guess there is no way to do this other than checkout-checkin through DFC. Do you want to preserve old object?

if you are not interested in preserving old object and just want to overwrite the content with new one and set a new version "label" to it, it is possible.

IDfSysObject sysObj = (IDfSysObject) session.getObject("your_object_id");
sysObj.setFile (fileName); //or use setContent (ByteArrayOutputStream content)
sysObject.setRepeatingString("r_version_label",sysObject.getVersionLabels().getVersionLabelCount()+1,"Your_version_label");//set a symbolic version

sysObject.save();

A word of caution: i have not tried it yet but it should work
