Customizing DCO for opening outlook client with selected documents attached

Hi all,

Here is my requirement,

We have been trying to customize DCO , when a document [or many documents] is selected and clicked on send as attachment [customized link in menu bar], the outlook client should open with the documents attached.

I have split the requirement as 2 parts -

    

     1. downloading content to client machine

      2. opening outlook client and attaching the documents

Downloading the content to client machine - I have done a silent export where i dont ask the user to save the document [it gets saved in documents and settings]

For opening outlook client - i have a java script that opens the outlook

My problem is: i am not sure how to invoke the javascript which opens outlook..

I tired to invoke the script after the export is done [ from the onExit method of the silent ucf container].it doesn help.....

I would really appreciate if you could give me ur suggestions.

Hi,

Actually UCF can seemlessly do all that you are trying to do.

UCF is capable of downloading any kind of content (linked or simple) to the client machine.

It can also open the file on client machine using any application available on the client machine.

If you can accomplish your custom processing during export itself, then just calling IDfContentPackageItem.setShouldBeOpenedByClient(true) during export  is good enough for UCF to launch the default viewer for that content-type configured on the client machine.I believe the clients will have outlook configured for opening "msg" file types.

Probably you can do this by customizing WDK's preprocessing component for export.

Alternately UCF also provides a mechanism for making an call to open up content in specific application. For that case you would need to do ILaunchApplicationRequest with the application and the filepath of downloaded content. This would probably need customization of WDK's postprocessing component for export.
