CheckIn Checkout Events

I have a requirement wherein I have to expose Documentum checkin and checkout events as a webservice in another .NET web application.

We need a way to integrate the calls from .NET web application to Documentum 5.3 to perform functions such as check in, checkout etc

Please let me know which is the best aproach to do the same in 5.3.

Is it through Documentum WSF framework or is there any other way.

Take a look a DFS (Documentum Foundation Services). It provides .NET native client library to do checkin/checkout from .NET applications.

Please let me know can be use DFS in Documentum 5.3 or DFS is meant for Documentum 6 or higher.

Even though DFS was available starting with Documentum 6, it will generally work with Documentum 5.3 Content Server. By default DFS is packaged and deployed with Content Server 6.0 and up. However, there is a standalone DFS installer which can be installed on a separate machine and connect to Documentum 5.3 docbase. When you connecting DFS to 5.3 docbase (repository), some DFS services such as WorkflowService will not work because it depents on Service‑Based Business Object (SBO) delivered in a DocApp with Content Server version 6. VersionControlService (checkin/checkout) and other services should work.

DFS standalone installer is packaged with BEA WebLogic and DFS 6.5 standalone installer is package with JBoss.

Please let me know wich services will not work in Content Server 5.3?

One more question. Can I invoke some CRUD operation DFS layer from Content Server 5.3 and how can I do this?
