dfs create operation

hi im wondering how on earth to create a document in the repository that actually contains content?

all the guides and white papers show you how to create contentLESS documents

using the object service create operation. but i want to create one that actually contains something...

any one have any sample code on how to do this in c#??

i would preferably like to add the content to the document straight from a c# form textbox??

I am not sure why this error tured up. But this may be the reason of the API you are using. Such as 'newPorpSet.Set'

it should be 'newPorpSet.set' I am posting the entire code .... Try it once ... Let me know if it has similar problem.

That's an example of adding content from file.

hi, ya i tried that but it returns an error when it tries to create it.

i specify a filePath of a pdf doc on my machine - i have an if statement to

check if it exists and it says it does.

then i copy the rest of the code identical to yours. but it doesnt work. it stills works fine when i create a contentless one.

could you possibly give me a real example as opposed to this generic one.

i think the error is probably occuring in this line below: sorry about how it looks, the copy and paste does strange things on this page, but its all one line in my code

Service method "Create" invocation failed.

on the line:objectService.Create(dataPackage, operationOptions);

inner exception message:

I need entire stacktrace to find out the cause.

You could you get the Java StackTrace from the server log.

You should try remove the property a_content_type=pdf from the DataObject.

I believe the problem is in your path. I need the server log to be sure, but:

If the server and client are on different computers providing a path to file c:\mydoc.txt will be valid for the client part and the file will not be available on server computer under the provided path.

To workaround this part you have 3 options:

1. Use ContentTransfer.UCF, in this case ucf process will take the file from the client side.

2. Change the path to the file to a global one that is accepted from a remote computer (i.e path to a shared folder: \\mycomp\mydoc.txt)\

3. Use other type of Content (Binary, DataHandler etc.)

I'm receiving the same error and since I am running DFS and my C# code on the same box, it can't be the file path.

The exception handling in DFS is a big step backward from DFC.

The stack trace you get from the .NET productivity layer is not complete at the moment. For a more detailed exception please use a network sniffer to look into the returned SOAP fault. It should contain the entire server side stack trace and provide much more valuable information.

Hi ,

You are able to run the 'contentless' code correctly and with 'content' code you are going wrong .

most close answer will be , you are giving incorrect a_content_type....

if you are uploading a document (say 1.txt) , you can not just give 'txt' as a_content_type

if you want to see what is the correct content type , query ::: select * from dm_format where dos_extension ='txt'

then you will get the proper a_content_type .... and you wont be facing any problem I suppose .

If you are using DFS , you need to set up relationship with of the folder and document ....eg::::

Once you create your document say::

I have seen, that my folderPathString start with " ;" and its not possible to set "owner_name"...

If i leave out both things it runs!
