WDK ATF Version compatibility

Hello,

We are planning on using WDK ATF during our upgrade from version 5.3 SP4/5 to 6.5 SP1.  We are hoping to develop ATF test cases in our 5.3 environment to establish a baseline.  We would then upgrade the environment and re-execute the same test cases against our 6.5 environment.  I see that there are different versions of ATF that support different versions of WDK.

The question I have is will the test cases generated using ATF version 1.0 against 5.3 work as-is with ATF 2.5 against 6.5?  If they are not compatible, do we need to re-generate the test-cases?

Hi,

In most cases, the test cases should still be compatible.  In the cases where they aren't compatible, it's due to fundamental changes in how the product works.  Where we could, we tried to make the changes transparent to the test cases, but it wasn't always possible.  One area where it should be transparent is how the test framework takes into account the change from the 5.3 checkbox model in listing pages to the 6.x row selection model.  Each new version of the framework generally includes more bug fixes and support for more/new features of WDK.

If a test works in the 5.3 environment but not the 6.x environment, it may be necessary to make some changes to the test.  Depending on your familiarity with java and WDK, all that may be needed is the modification of a few lines of code to make it work.  In other cases, it may be simpler to regenerate the test case.
