RPS and Migration

I need to migrate thousands of documents into a new docbase which will have RPS and PRM configured.  I'm very familiar with Documentum but new to RPS and PRM.

How do I manipulate the migrated objects so they become informal records with associated policies?  The documentation discusses the creation of informal records via the Webtop GUI but that is obviously not practical for a migration.  Is there a tool to do this or will custom programming be required?  If the latter, are there DFC classes for working with records?  Are there any white papers I can read to brush up on this?  I'm looking to get a general overview of the process.  Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Apologies for the delay in replying.  One of the ways that RPS and RM policies can be applied is to apply the policy directly to a folder, then all of the content or sub-folders that are subsequently created within that folder will now inherit the policy (please note that if there is content already within the folder it will also have the policy applied) .  If you are doing a bulk process or migration type of exercise our recommendation would be to apply the policy to the folder, then simply move/migrate all of the content into said folder.  Through our inheritance model once the content is associated to the folder with the applied policy all of the content will now be managed by the policy.  This is for all of our policies - RPS, RM, PRM and also Retention Markups.
