XML Application question

Dear All,

I'm working on an XML authoring project and I don't knowm much about XML application

The aim is to be able to import documents of different types into the same application.

Although some documents have diffrent object types, they will have pretty similar behaviour.

Is it possible to have one XML application to handle different object types, or is is mandatory to have one XML application per object type?

Hi,

Implementation of an XML application is largely governed by how the author intends to manage XML content and what business processes need to be performed on that content.

Coming to your question, "The aim is to be able to import documents of different types into the same application.", I guess you mean to import XML files of different types (extensions) like DITA, XML, XSD etc. probably as different docbase types using the same XML app.

Answer is same XML app can definitely be used unless there are conflicting requirements e.g. if the requirement mandates any 'conref' link that you find in an XML doc be made a dm_document type whereas for DITA doc you want the same type of link to be made a custom type object (say my type).

In this example scenario, you are bound to create two XML application configurations, most probably two apps.

The XML application configuration file allows you to include rules to assign custom object types to be used for the entire XML document or for individual chunks generated as a result of the application of the content rules defined in the XML app.

But we need to bear in mind that the custom type has to be preinstalled in docbase.

Also the object type must be SysObject or a subtype. If you dont specify any object type, by default dm_document type is assigned.
