Documentum 6.5SP1 - Linux/Oracle

I've been trying to do an install of Documentum using the Linux/Oracle downloads without much success. This may well be more on the Oracle side of the fence but this started when I put Oracle XE(10.2.0.1-1) on a newly installed CentOS 5.3 virtual machine, and then tried to get Documentum (6.5SP1) installed and configured, only to get the majority of the way through and be told that the minimum is Oracle 10.2.0.3, despite what the release notes say.

Since 10.2.0.1-1 is the latest Oracle XE I concluded that it must not be supported and moved on to trying it on 11.1 (Standard One). The biggest downside to this is that this Oracle installer is far less friendly than the XE installer, and at the end of it I am not left with a TNSNAMES.ORA which documentum needs. I am not an Oracle expert by any means (hence the desire to go with Oracle XE).

Does anyone have any advice, instructions for getting it working on linux? Finally has anyone broached the question of the possibility of installing onto Postgresql/MySQL instead (since this is for development/research purposes only)?

I would forget using any OSS databases for now as they aren't supported (unfortunately). I had the same problem with XE & supported version numbers. I ended up going with a full Oracle server but it was a real PITA to set up. If you really want to persist with XE on Linux then perhaps you could trick the installer into thinking that you're using a supported DB version. I believe that $DM_HOME/dmdbtest is used to check the DB version - perhaps you could replace that with a script that returns true or something... For a simpler life, why not try XE or SQL Express on Windows Server?

I've done plenty of Windows 2003 Server + SQL Server installs. Having heard about them doing 100,000 concurrent users on (Windows 2008) I wanted to see if I could produce better benchmarks, than a vm setup using the same design that was used in their testing, by using a linux based server.

After numerous discussions with Craig Randall, I have been informed that Oracle XE is not a supported database. Ukdavo's suggestion does indeed work, allowing you to run Documentum on Oracle XE, however with the extra effort getting XE working I could have had a working and installed Oracle 11g in less time.
