How can I migrate Documentum 5.2.5 sp3 to Documentum 6?
can I do 5.2.5 sp3 -> 6 or is necessary 5.2.5 sp3 - > 5.3 -> 6 ?
Thank you
Get hold of the installation/upgrade guide in the download centre and you'll find out exactly what can and can't be done as well as the different options to upgrade (in place, migration....)
Hi Mavegas.
There are a couple of different things you can do. You can upgrade in place, you can clone your system to new hardware and then upgrade in place, or you can set up a new D6 system on new hardware and copy over the contents of your 5.2.5 SP3 system. I also had another question for you, why 6 and not 6.5 SP1?
If you upgrade through the Documentum versions, I believe you can go from 5.2.5 SP3 to 5.3 SP6 and then to 6.0 SP1 or 6.5 SP1. I'm not sure off hand if you need to pass through 5.2.5 SP5 before going to 5.3 SP6. You can check that out in the 5.3 SP6 install/upgrade guide. The process is pretty much the same if you clone the system, but then you need to do all the cloning steps too. Either way, it is a lot of work. I did a project recently to upgrade a 5.2.5 SP5 system to 6.5 with a clone/in place upgrade process and it took over a week! we had to upgrade through OS and Oracle versions too.
An alternative you might also want to consider is copying your documents and other objects in your docbase from the 5.2.5 SP3 system directly to a D6 system. Since you can migrate older content while the 5.2.5 SP3 system is still in production, you can do a production cutover much more quickly. Being from TSG, I'm partial to our OpenMigrate product for migrations. But I've got a client that has also used Buldozer and I've used McClaren's DocLoader in the past as well. Please feel free to contact me at cadcock@tsgrp.com if I can be of any further assistance.
Good Luck!
