Metadata Usage
coma
Hi,
Forgive me if its a newbie question, But how exactly is the metadata used outside of the Content Management server. For example if i am copying the data using opendeploy to a production server. How do i make use of the metadata on HTML files, especially the launch and expiry date. Of course i can send the metadata to DB using DAS, and build the search and display intelligence into my presentation part to read info from the DB, but is there an easier way??
TIA
Regards
Coma

It depends on your system. The project I'm currently working on uses JSPs to render their pages. During the course of the workflow, metadata is set on files, but it is also extracted and either (a) turned into a separate HTML snippet containing just META tags which gets deployed too and loaded distinctly by the JSP, or (b) injected into the static HTML file as META tags, thus when the page is deployed it has them. They also deploy the metadata using DataDeploy to an Oracle DB to assist with web search utilities.
One way or another, if you have TeamSite metadata / extended attributes that you wish to make use of on the production-side of the system - you'll need to extract them from the development side to deploy them to the production side. How you go about doing it is generally dependent upon the design of the overall system.

Hi,
Thnx, but we are planning to use Teamsite to manage the static content coming into our portal. So we will be deploying The DCRs and copying the metadata to a DB. DCRs will be parsed at runtime by the JSPs to generate the presentation. In such a case how do we make use of Metadata like Launch and expiry date. Ecpecially i would like to know how these 2 metadata tags are used in case of static websites(where i cannot write the intelligence to read metadata in other files), or otherwise.
TIA
