Documentum 6.5: Error when restarting service

Hello,

Does somebody encountered the following problem. I have to restart my documentum 6.5 service. Before that, I stop the docbase and the docbroker. Then, I started the docbroker and the docbase. When doing the start actions I heve the following error:

Error: Unable to rename logfile C:\Documentum\dba\log\GEDCaisse.log
Please close all applications that use this file before starting the server.

After analysing I couldn't find any application using the log file.

Any help?

When documentum server starts the process first tries to rename the old server log and create new one. Most probably some documentum process has not come down properly which may cause this situation. Seems like you have already figured out there is no process in task manager as "documentum".

In past I have used procexp (www.sysinternals.com) to figure out which process is accessing the server log. BTW some times I have seen dmbasic processes (leftover job processes) which can cause this issue.

Other possibilities could be if the file is open by a process for viewing like Notepad, "View Log" of Dctm Administrator etc.

Personally, I think that if you need to restart the services, if you can, you should reboot the server, can't hurt it to have a clean start every so often. We all know OS' are full of bugs, memory leaks, etc.. so by rebooting, you're sure that all process are indeed stoped and nothing is accessing the files
