WDK automated test framework

Hi ,

I configured WDK ATF version 1.0.It works fine till initial recording but when i click on any control in UI, takes lot of time to get response from server and neither time out occurs. Also sometimes get javascript error. Please let me know any further details required.

Did you apply the mandatory service pack for the 1.0 version of the framework?

It would be helpful if you could provide the steps you attempted to record, any partial java test case class that may have been created as well as a copy of the javascript error that you get.

Hi Linda,

I have installed the mandatory patch to my install. when i record any test scenario, it works fine till initial rendering of component. Here are the steps that i follow.

1) Configure to launch custom search component-----> works fine till initial rendering.

2) I enter some values in textfield and click on search button---> query at backend generated is fine but takes lot of time to get response (search results page) and leads to hung thread in app server. search results page is not displayed and just hangs at this point.

The application server we use Websphere 5.1. Are we doing something wrong? Doesnt it support click event?

Please let me know these details asap.

Hi Kiran,

Does your test scenario work even without going through the WDK Automated Test Framework? Meaning, if you execute the same steps not trying to record a test, do you ever run into the app server thread hang? From your description, it sounds like something with the search may be hanging.

The test scenario works perfectly fine without going through automated test framework. That was just an example i quoted. It doesnt work even for any other components. I tested with dql editor too and iam getting the same thread hung issue. It works fine till initial rendering of component but when i click on any button it just takes lot of time to respond. I also observed this error: "RecorderMedium: java queue content shouldnt be but is null". Is there something wrong with the framework? Does it support websphere 5.1? we use custom WDK application on SP6. Please let me know if you need further information. Thanks for your response.

Hi Linda,

On existing SP6, i used WDK ATF version 2.5. Atleast i got navigation to work which implies there is something wrong with ATF 1.0 event handlers. I configured WDK ATF 2.5 on 6.5 and it worked fine.

I have the exact same problem.

Im trying to record tests for a custom WDK 5.3 SP6 application.

I installed ATF 1.0 (patched with WDK_TestFramework_1.0_mandatory_update.zip & utf_fix_for_ATF_1.0.zip)

My application is working fine even with the test framework installed when Im not using the /component/testtool interface but when I try to record a test (clicking on a button for example), the test tool hangs and CPU usage goes to 100%. I have to stop the Tomcat 6.0 server to make it stop. Then I have to delete the webtop\config\testcase\default_config.xml file because it's incomplete and prevent my Tomcat from starting.

Any idea?

OK. I dont think the framework works with ATF1.0. I got it working with WDK ATF2.5. So there should be something wrong with ATF1.0.However i tested ATF2.5 with few components. So need to explore more.....

ATF2.5 doesnt work with 5.3 SP6. It works only with 6.5 webtop. I hve tried it on 5.3 SP6 but no success.

I'll try and see if someone can take a look. It would be extremely helpful, however, if you can provide the following information:

1) What operating system and version are you using for your application server?

2) What browser and version are you using?

3) What version of java is being used for the application server?

4) Do you start with a component URL or just a general product URL?

If you've any partially created java test case classes or XML test configuration files, which you could attach, those would also be helpful.

The engineer who will look into the issue may have additional questions.

Im currently trying the ATF 1.0 on a local Windows XP Pro SP2 environment using Tomcat 6.0.

The Webtop is version 5.3 SP6 and the content server is version 5.25 SP5.

2) What browser and version are you using?

I tried with IE 6.0.2900.2180 and firefox 3.0.11. Same problem.

3) What version of java is being used for the application server?

JDK 1.42

4) Do you start with a component URL or just a general product URL?

I used the general product URL: http://{host}:{port} /{webapp}/component/testtool

I'll try to find you java test case classes or XML test configuration files.

*Edit: I attached the partially generated default_config.xml

Anyway, I will explain my problem more in details if that can help:

I installed ATF 1.0 (patched with WDK_TestFramework_1.0_mandatory_update.zip & utf_fix_for_ATF_1.0.zip

My application is working fine with the test framework installed over it.

The problem rises when I try to record a test using the /component/testtool

The test tool hangs forever when trying some simples actions (clicking on a button, expanding an item of the browser tree, etc.).

CPU usage goes to 100%. I have to stop the Tomcat 6.0 server so the CPU goes back to normal. Then I have to delete the webtop\config\testcase\default_config.xml file because it recorded an incomplete test and prevent my Tomcat from starting again.

The steps to recreate the issue:
* Install a Webtop 5.3 SP6
* Install the ATF 1.0
* Install WDK_TestFramework_1.0_mandatory_update.zip
* Install utf_fix_for_ATF_1.0.zip
* Start Tomcat 6.0
* go to http://{host}:{port} /{webapp}/component/testtool
* go to Test Recorder Launched tab
* fill out classname, testcaseid, packagename, autologin
* record a test, do something (ex. expand the browser tree)

Hi,

One of the engineers has started setup of a 5.3 SP6 on Tomcat 5.0.28. He's tried recording and playing back some simple scenarios. Due to some network issues, various test runs are timing out, but has verified that when clicking a button in search, the query gets executed and response comes back and does not hang. Once the network issues are resolved, he'll do some more tests.

He has commented that running Tomcat 6 with JDK 1.4 is not recommended. I've asked for clarification on this last point.

Tomcat 6 should be used with JDK 5 per the Dependency Changes section of the Tomcat 6.0 release notes (http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/RELEASE-NOTES.txt). The engineer feels that there shouldn't be any issues with the test framework when running with one of the recommended environments.

Anyway, in fact we use the JDK1.5 for the webtop and JDK1.42 for the content server.

I was not sure what you meant by application server.

So we are actually using what your engineer recommends for the webtop: Tomcat 6, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and JDK1.5

Hi,

In your particular case, the application server is Tomcat 6. From the previous questions, you'd responded that the version of java used with the application server was Java 1.42 which likely caused the engineer's confusion. I'll update this thread when I get any additional information from the engineer.

I was working on this issue. Using your previous reply, I did a similar setup (Tomcat 6.0.14, JDK1.5 with 5.3SP6 CS only exception- my OS was Win 2003). I was able to execute testcases (e.g: search for a particular document, export a doc).

In order to understand your issue further, can you send across your logs and the exact configuration?

Hi,

We've taken a look at the log files and noticed some BOF (customization) related issues. Although the errors may not affect running the application without the test framework, we're concerned that these errors may impact usage of the test framework since when running with the test framework, it is less likely to silently ignore some types of errors.

Also, it seems like you are using BOF version 2 modules with DBOR registry file, it may not work most of times, try using and enabling global registry with your docbase if docbase version supports it, and try re-installing your related custom developed module to that global registry docbase. Also check the DQL queries being used in your custom BOF module, they don't seem to work in your current setup of docbase.
