Help:How To Develop an Application Using Documentum WDK 6 ?

Hello all,
I'm new to this forum , also new to Documentum WDK 6 .My goal is to build an application using WDK6 ,
Actually I downloaded " wdk.war " but I don't know how to use it, even I have read relevant tutorial.

I installed composer,but I don't know how to write code and how is it in combination with WDK.

I don't have a integral conecpt.So please provide help and steps to put me in the first step to develop.
This is my first request here , I hope I got a response.

This really speaks to the importance of understanding the framework and extension model of the WDK. Because you are modifying a DAM application, which has extended the webtop application, you need to extend the menubar at <dam>/dam/config/dam_menubar_component.xml instead of the one from the webcomponent layer.

The Web Development Kit Development Guide, available on Powerlink, should be a good starting place.

The WDK is a complex framework, make sure you understand the core concepts before jumping in without understanding the moving parts.

To insert the Rename command to the File menu:
1. Using any text editor, create a new file named “menu_configuration_1.xml” in the

"apache-tomcat-5.5.17\webapps\dam2\custom\config" directory.
2. Enter the code listing as shown.

I restarted my Tomcat server but could not t find any change on the file menu in DAM。I want

to konw what's this the matter.

Thank you very much,I add the menu element successfully after charge the path of config file as you suggested.
A new problem appeared when I create a component.Exactly in the step of creating class.My steps as followed:
1.Configuring the MenuBar
Create a new file named “helloworld_menu_configuration.xml” in the <webtop root>/custom/config directory.
Insert a menu element for the code:

2.Configuring the Hello World Action

3.Configuring the Hello World Component

4.I create HelloWebtop.java in eclipse which is a plugin of composer.
    package com.myHello.custom;
    import com.documentum.web.common.ArgumentList;
    import com.documentum.web.formext.component.Component;

    public class HelloWebtop extends Component {
    public void onInit(ArgumentList arg){
    super.onInit(arg);
   }
}

The purpose to get .class file and copy it to the directory <WEBTOP_ROOT>\WEB_INF\classes\com\myHello\custom\HelloWebtop.class ,I just create a JAVA project and add DFC jars in the project.But cannot find the specified ArgumentList class and Component class,so cannt complie.
How to combin DAM application with the IDE (or eclipse of Composer)？In the step 1 to step 3 I just operate them through EditPlus.

Better to use a public forum, where everyone can benefit from our exchange.

You need to include WEB-INF/classes as a classpath folder. Do this through Eclipse. Below is a URL to configuring Eclipse for DFC 5.3.

Thank you at first.
I have solved the above problem.And now doing some basic development on DAM.Add a menu element in a menubar,and add the corresponding action and JSP.
I add another menu element in a menu bar, after the DAM main page launched successfully the element item can appear and disappear at times, I still donnot find the reason.
I want to know whether the whole frame or layout of DAM can be changed or not.I just want to do some thing about audio and video transfer during different formats. Would you give me some advice whether I develop on DAM or just combine DFC library with struts and spring to achieve my purpose in one or two month.

It's probably a lot easier to customize the WDK application rather than write an entire new application, but the learning curve for the WDK is steep. You should probably team up with someone in your organization who is familiar with WDK customizations.
