Can I installing Documentum Developer Edition on Laptop using AMD processor?

Hi,

I have read the installation guide for Documentum Developer Edition. It states the following for operating system requirements:

Windows XP SP3 (32–bit version) Intel (x86)

I have a laptop with Microprocessor AMD Turion X2 RM-72 Dual-Core Mobile Processor with windows vista. I am planning to get windows XP on it but was not sure if I can install Documentum Content Server Developer Edition.

Anyone who has installed it or if you can point me to a better place to get the answer to the above question is greatly appreciated.

Since the binaries are created standard x86 compilers same package should work AMD processors as well; though I have not tried that.

Just had one of my developers install it on his HP Pavilion and he hasn't encountered any CPU related issues.

One of my friend has an HP laptop and could not get it it install, but the operating system he has is Windows Vista.

I have installed it on my Dell Laptop with AMD Athlon Duel Core with 2 GB RAM XP Professional SP 3. It is slow but usable. Unfortunately my laptop has 2 GB max physical memoray limit. But at least I can access the content server, access webtop and DA , run composer and process builder.

Probably won;t work too well on Vista because there is a SQLServer issue on Vista that requires manual interaction to install and setup SQLServer. Therefore, the installer will probably fail.

Note that if the EDN edition was officially supported, it would be in the release notes.

I am also experiencing issues installing on my laptop: XP SP3. The issue seems to be with SQLServer. Has anyone found a workaround?

Anyone know why it installs a specific database? I would have liked the option to configure to any database.

Appreciate any help with the SQLServer issue as I'd really like to get moving forward with the developers edition.

Never needed a workaround, it installed it perfectly on my XP SP3 box

What do the logs say, the installer logs, the logs in the Windows event viewer, etc...

Most likely because it is free and maybe be distributed freely which is not the case with most RDBMS supported by the content server

Note that if you want to use another database, you could still download the content server for this database from PowerLink

Thanks for your reply. The error I'm seeing is:

That installer script is trying to start the database - which fails.

I have also followed the instructions in the Installation guide which states:

Caution: The Microsoft bug described in KB article 968749 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/
968749) can cause an installation error ("DiPADbInstall failed!”). This error occurs with XML
Core Services 6.0 SP2, which is installed when you upgrade to Windows XP SP3.
Follow the instructions in the Microsoft KB article cited above to correct your XML Core Services
before attempting to install the product again.

This made no difference.

As to using PowerLink, that would be a great idea if I wasn't in the evaluation stage. I don't have an id to access the downloads.

Actually, now that I think about it, I might have installed SP3 after installing EDN so maybe, that's why I could install it.

Maybe due to this Microsoft 'problem', the silent install of the SQLserver database can't be done.

I guess, if you have System Restore turned on, you could restore your system to before the install of SP3 or uninstall it and try again. Then you could reinstall SP3

Does Documentum 5.3sp4 & 6.5sp1 support Sun Solaris on Intel processor based servers? anyone exprienced?

Check the appropriate release notes, that where you can find the hardware/software supported
This is a completely different question. Would be better (for the point system as well as to make sure it's not missed by users that would bypass this dicussion) to create a new discussion for a new question

How we verified that this was a Microsoft issue was to install the Database without the installer. Can you verify that you can install SQL Server Express 2005?

If this is a SQL Server Express issue, there should be errors in the SQL Server Express Logs.

This is what we specify:

IA-32 = Intel Architecture 32-bit

x64 = 64-bit Architecture which includes AMD64 & Intel 64

My understanding is AMD Turion is covered by the above statements.
