when i installed developer edition on windows vista, i got error attached.
i know this version is for windows xp sp3.
but has anybody tried to install this on windows vista ?
Hi, I just installed it on Vista 64 (HP Pavilion dv7). So far I was able to bring up DA.
According to the release notes, Vista is not supported.
I think the reason is that the EDN Edition uses SQLServer 2005 and there is an issue SQLServer installing 2005 on Vista that requires some manual steps and downloads that probably can't be automated in the installer.
On top of that, I don't want to be rude but Vista is a big pile of asdFW#$%)(FWK)AAER(#324dfwcs. Can you believe they re-introduced the blue screen of death that was almost completely disappeared in XP
You get the same challenge if you try if on Windows 7....
Same incompatibility between SQL Server 2005 and the OS...and the patches for SQL Server don't solve the problem.
However, a VMWare clean Windows XP image running on a 32 bit Vista host works fine.
I guess the 32-bit Vista host effectively supports only 3GB (my experience with Vista Ultimate), so presumably the XP guest can only have 1-2 GB. This works fine?
XP also supports up to 3GB (it's a Win 32 limitation applying to basically all Win 32 OS)
I think VMWare is licensed software. I dont think I should be able to use that.
Let me know if you think there can be some manual crack process to this on VIsta ?
Don't think so since the whole insallation is kind of automated.
