How do I change the type of objects in my repository?

I have uploaded a large amount of objects as dm_document, but would like to change them to a custom type. Is there a job or utility I can run to do this for me? Or is the only option to delete these objects from the repository and reload them as the custom type?

Check out the Content Server Fundamentals guide (page 105 in the 6.5 SP1 version). It talks about the DQL CHANGE...OBJECT[S] statement and the contstraints on changing objects from one type to another.

You can have a method that takes as input the type that you have created & use the change... objects DQL statement to change dm_document objects to the new type. You can define a job that runs the above method to accomplish your task.

I would be wary trying to change object types on a routine basis. I have tried doing this in the past and encountered caching issues with Webtop. I played around with various caching parameters for two weeks and in the end, abandoned the feature, since we could not consistently guarantee new type population from UI perspective.

Have you tried with the latest versions to see if the caching issue still exists?. As I remember this issue was resolved w.r.t. change DQL.

No, I havent tried this with 6.5. The caching issue was not related to DQL statement itself, it was that Webtop still cached the old type definition of the object if the user already had it displayed. Restarting Webtop would fix the issue, but this didnt address the requirement for dynamic object type changing.

This was a bug in ContentServer that has been fixed in 6.5Sp1 and also 6.0 Sp1.

The User had a requirement to change object type of a document upon moving. The object type is changed using the 
CHANGE..OBJECTS DQL statement. The type is changed correctly, but the properties page shows the pervious type. The user wants a 
workaround or api to refresh the session cache without having to restart app server or user logout and logging back in.

If u try with the latest ContentServer version you shouldn't be observing this issue.
