Deploying from windows to unix
asianknight_7
Is there a good article that talks about how to setup OpenDeploy for deploying from Windows (2000) to Unix (Solaris 8)? I can¡¦t find any. Thanks.

A deployment between Windows and Unix is pretty much out-of-the-box OpenDeploy so I would have felt the manual covered it fairly well.
In brief:
- install OpenDeploy on sender
- install OpenDeploy on receiver
- write deployment script
- press big green shiny button
I guess one specific thing when going between Windows and Unix would be to set your user and group ownership and permissions on the target files/directories.
Hopefully other people have 'lessons learned' on this topic they might wish to share?

One other thing to remember would be to make sure you either save your files you are deploying in UNIX mode or else run dos2unix command to strip off unwanted ^M as a deploy and run scrpt!
Good luck.

If running a DNR to modify all deployed files make sure you do *not* have dateDifferent enabled - otherwise you will end up deploying the files *everytime* you do a deployment, because they will have changed.
A better approach is to (a) use better editors on Windows that allow you to save files in "Unix format" and (b) use a script or program within your workflow process that makes this fix *before* submitting the files to staging, so that you don't have to worry about it during the deployment.
