Running WebTop 5.3SP5 and 6.5SP2 together

Question

Is it possible to extend an existing system running Content Server 5.3SP5 and WebTop 5.3SP5 with WebTop 6.5SP2?

If so, can this be done on the same application server instance?

The end-goal business wise is to have a pilot with WebTop 6.5SP2 for a small goup of users before making the final upgrade to Content Server 6.5SP2 and WebTop 6.5SP2.

So far I've not come accross documentation on this.

Does anybody know of existing documentation or have done this already?

In theory, it could work but in the real world, I wouldn't recommend it because the 6.5 SP2 instance will not use properly its own DFC as the DFC is registered on the machine and its path in the Windows Path (provided you use Windows of course) and therefore, you might get into troubles, specially with TBO/SBO's and this kind of stuff.

Also, to be able to use properly Webtop 6.5*, it need to be able to connect to a 6.5* repository because a lot of stuff is done through TBO/SBO's nowadays, like subscriptions, Inbox and a lot of other stuff so if you only have  5.3 server, then you'll get a lot of errors when navigating Webtop 6
