Missing Menu Item

Hi,

we have a strange problem here. One of our author misses the item "New Data Record" in the File-Menu when using the Java Webdesk. If the author logs on in Webdesk Pro the Item is there and works. Also if other users log on (both webdesks) the Menu-Item is there.

We already tried the following :
- logged on another machine - same behavior.
- checked rights - all clear.

The server is a Windows-Machine running NT4 SP6a, the client the author uses is W2K SP3 with IE 5.5.

I wonder if anyone had something similar with the java-webdesk ??

There is no way to hide the New Data Record menu item by user. The only real way to hide this menu item is to explicitly state that the menu item should be removed for authors in iw.cfg, or if templating is not installed.

One possibility is that when this user logs in, he is not within a WORKAREA view. Make sure that he is actually within a WORKAREA that is configured for templating (ie has a templatedata directory).

Thanx for your answers.
The user is definetely in a workarea - not in staging. The Menu-Item isn't disabled in IW.CFG (if so all other authors had the same problem).

If the author logs on another pc, things dont change. Could there be something wrong with the user-account of the login-domain (w2k) ?

This situation is indeed very strange...

Applying some troubleshooting logic here, if the issue is following the user and not tied to the physical system/browser, it's likely some user configuration item. Is this user set up the same way in terms of file system privileges as well as IWOV roles (in the .uid files)? These might be good places to check.

Hi lissa.

Yes, the user has the same permissions in the file system (as 20 other users), full control on the workarea and all following directorys. The Role-Files are correct - all these users are authors.

Somehow i managed to have this problem (missing menu item "New Data Record" in Webdesk) also an our Test-System with local Testusers. After a few reboots - which were necessary because of another problem with a windows-DLL - the problem disappeared.

My conclusion now is, that there may be a problem with the temporary files the iw-tomcat (servletd) creates for work. Is there a chance to delete these temp-files and force the tomcat to re-compile ?

Just for Information :
The problem is solved. Deleting TeamSite's user-entry with "iwuser -d <userid>" did it.
