When a new edition is cut does each and every file in staging goes to the edition or it is only the difference which goes there.

When an edition is cut only the differences are published. but from that new edition you should be able to access the unchanged files as well.

There is some documentation on exactly what is taken up as far as storage space when publishing editions. We've found that text differences are stored, whereas binary files such as images take up more space for each edition publication.

New copies (file versions) of the changes file(s) are a part of the new edition while the rest of the unchanged content is referred to internally by pointers which point to the latest versions of each unchanged file(s) in the teamsite backing store.
