custom_menu_items/ui_remove_menu_items
sara
We would like to use one Teamsite server for several projects, with widely divergent requirements.
Content and Security can be strictly separated using different branches.
These different projects also need different UI options. The administration quide mentiones the possibilities to add custom menu items, and to remove menu items. But these settings can only be specified for the different Teamsite roles, and are global for that teamsite server.
In our case some custom menu items are only valid within one project (=branch), and items not necessary for one project are required within another project
Is there a way to define these options differently within separate branches or do I really need to install teamsite on a separate server for every project?
Thanks
Sara

I don't think what you want is supported. But you can have code in your custom menu items that checks what branch the user is on and throws an error message if it is wrong. Then you can replace the default menu items with custom ones that have this logic, and if the check succeeds, creates a hidden HTML form that posts all the data to the page that Interwoven would have used by default.
Note that at least the CMIs that you put on the File menu will appear on tasks in WebDesk Pro so your code might also throw an error if a task ID is passed to it. Also the menu names are different in WebDesk and Pro.

It's true what John said - this is not possible at this time. But it looks like this will be available in an upcoming release of TeamSite, possibly the next big release in the 3rd quarter of this year. I don't see nearly as many responses from Interwoven people as I used to in DevNet, which is dissapointing, but I would hope one of them would respond to your post and let you know when thie ability to define custom menu items by user/group will be available.
Keep this in mind if you decide to spend a lot of effort to build in something yourself.

I agree, what happened to that ghoti guy? Has everyone at Interwoven been laid off?

I'm not really sure. I talked to some people responsible for DevNet during the Focus Group meeting a few weeks ago, mainly pointing out that many posts go unanswered, which is something they had told me 6 months earlier was something they went out of their way to avoid. Evidently the torch for being responsible for making sure posts are answered was passed to a different group recently, and that new group is definitely not doing as good of a job with DevNet responses. It is a big disappointment because one of the best parts about DevNet was that the engineers from the company would often help to solve your problem (or enter a handy dandy Feature Request for ya). Lately they seem to have disappeared as you said. It sucks.

I'm still here - I was just out of the country for 30+ days and didn't have sufficient network access to keep up with DevNet while there - and it's taking me a while to catch up with all the posts since I've been gone ...
I'm not the only one here who responds to things - but I may be one of the few people who actually loves responding to things (which is why you see soe many of my posts ;-) Unfortunately I also have to do work for customers, eat, occasionally sleep, and things like that - and (also contrary to popular belief) I don't know everything about everything - just a lot about a lot of things - so generally, if I don't respond it's because I don't know the answer and/or don't have time (or hardware / software resources) to test things out and provide empirical information.
The goal of DevNet was never that Interwoven would respond to everything - it was that you folks would be able to respond to each other and Interwoven could step in and assist. To a large degree, Interwoven folks *have* been keeping up with posts and contributing (I kind of ruin the bell-curve though ;-).
Trying to track un-responded to posts would be a full-time job IMO - and the economy being the way it is, I don't know if such a position can be considered justified ... Bear with us, keep posting, keep re-posting - hopefully we (the collective forum folks - Interwoven employees or otherwise [e.g. you]) will be able to get the answers disseminated eventually....

Regardless of what the "intention" was, the number of posts from Interwoven engineers has definitely dropped off dramatically - even taking you out of the loop. Intentions aside, because so many Interwoven engineers have posted in the past, there is an expectation that the site will continue to be supported by Interwoven posts to help people who are having trouble. There definitely are some great non-Interwoven resources out there. But there are just as many terrible ones who offer bad, or worse - wrong advice. Having someone from Interwoven give an answer at least assures most of us that it is one of the right answers.

Yea but on the plus side, there are a lot more ex-Interwoven ones out there to respond. :-(
