Nested Workflow Question
GodBlessMe
Hi,
I am trying to open a Nested workflow in an externaltask and passing file list to the child workflow.
The problem i'm facing is I've to manually start the child workflow by doing "Task Details=>Start Nested Job". But I don't want to start the child workflow manually. The child workflow should automatically start as soon as the parent workflow finishes calling it without User interaction.
Iam using the following code to call the Child workflow:
<wftask name="Nested_Job"
Start = "Yes"
owner="__TAG__('iw_user');"
description='Nested Author Assignment Workflow'>
__INSERT__("<areavpath v='$area_vpath'/>");
<successors>
<successorset>
<succ v="Parent_End"/>
</successorset>
</successors>
<jobfile v="__INSERT__("$iwhome");/local/config/wft/author_submit_nested.xml" />
</wftask>
Thanks.

First of all, you are not using an externaltask to kick off a nested workflow, you are using a wftask. There is no way to immediately kick off a wftask workflow - you have to do it manually. This is something Interwoven should consider as an option if someone uses a jobfile instead of a wftfile. If you really want to kick off a job without user interaction, you'll need to actually use an externaltask (or cgitask) to do it using CLTs. There have been many threads on how to do this. I suggest using the Search feature in DevNet to find what you're looking for.

or iwjobc with -i (invoke).
GodBlessMe
With iwjobc we are unable invoke a workflow template which contains <template_script>. In our case the <template_script> is necessary to add files to the child workflow that was attached to the parent workflow and create dummytasks and externaltasks on the fly for each DCR attached to the parent workflow. The dummy tasks wait for the DCR"S launch Date and invoke external task to deploy to production.

Why do you need to do that? Build your job spec file in an externaltask within your parent, filling in the <files> data with the files in your parent job. Then run iwjobc against that dynamically created job spec file.

Iam attaching the child workflow....Iam parsing the DCR in the child workflow and setting the Launchdate to the timeout (in the attachment it is +000000 for testing purpose) value for dummytask which wil be created on the fly.
How can I create the job spec file in the parent workflow because in the parent workflow i dont have the DCRs until the first user task where the user attaches the DCRs.
Thanks.

You create the job spec in an externaltask just prior to where your current <wftask> is (which you will change over to be an externaltask when you get this all figured out). You would have had to have a job spec file at that point from somewhere anyway. Why not dynamically generated from your parent? You already have most of the job spec, I assume, except for the <files> part. The script to build the job spec would be very simple.

I am able to dynamically create the temporary job specification file from the parent workflow . But the potential problem could be deleting the temporary job specification file once the workflow is finished. Is this the best way to do this?

If that's a problem, you could schedule a job (via cron or whatever Windows offers) to clean up your job specs at the end of the day. Or something like that.

I found in Support site that iwjobc requires the user to be a Master user. Is it possible to invoke the iwjobc command line tool from a workflow externaltask when the owner of the task does not belong to a Master User group?
Thanks....

On windows all externaltasks run as SYSTEM, which is usually in the masters.uid file (if you are using LDAP there may be other issues).
